Description

Ansel Adams’s photographs of nature are world-renowned. His careful eye and precise technique led the exhibition’s curator to state, "when you look at a good Ansel Adams photograph, you think you know the temperature, the relative humidity, the month." His photographs truly capture the transience and impermanence of nature.

These banners show how attractive and dramatic a wall-hanging can be with text only on both sides. One side of the banner is a rich brick-red color with white text that reads, “Ansel Adams” in a large, traditional serif font. The other side reads, “At 100/The Art Institute/through June 2, 2002”, as the exhibition commemorated Adams’s centenary. This text is white on a warm taupe background.

Provenance

These banners were displayed on the Magnificent Mile, Michigan Avenue in Chicago to promote the exhibition Ansel Adams at 100 which ran from February 20 - June 2, 2002. The exhibition was also held at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The Hayward Gallery in London, Berlin’s Kunstbibliothek, Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, New York City.
